Pennants

Springwood Country Club participates in a number of different types of pennants each year. We are affiliated with the Metropolitan grouping in Golf NSW. Playing for your club is a great way to play a wide range of courses in and around the Sydney region, as well as play matchplay. See the different types of pennants available below as there is something available for all ages and abilities.

Men’s Major Pennant

The Metropolitan Major Pennant competition is open to all Sydney Metropolitan Golf Clubs who are affiliated with Golf NSW.

The preliminary rounds usually run from February to April. It is a contest between two Clubs of seven (7) individual matches played over 18-holes of matchplay without the benefit of handicap.

Clubs participating in the Major Pennant are divided into five (5) divisions with four (4) Sections in each division. Depending on the number of nominations, the Major Pennant season consists of up to six preliminary rounds, followed by semi-finals and finals.

Players must be male amateur golfers who are current financial members of the Club.

Men’s Master’s Pennant

The Master’s Pennant competition is open to all Sydney Metropolitan Golf Clubs who are affiliated with Golf NSW.

The preliminary rounds usually run from May to July. It is a contest between two Clubs of eight (8) individual matches played over 18-holes of matchplay without the benefit of handicap.

Clubs participating in the Master’s Pennant are divided into four (4) divisions with four (4) Sections in each division. Depending on the number of nominations, the Master’s Pennant season consists of up to six preliminary rounds, followed by semi-finals and finals.

Players must be male amateur golfers, over 50 years of age, who are current financial members of the Club.

Warren Trophy & W. Gibson Trophy

The T.L. Warren Trophy & W. Gibson Trophy is a Contest between the two Clubs consisting of three (3) Fourball Matches, played over 18-holes of match play without the benefit of handicap for B and C Grade competitors.

Conducted annually from July until October, the Warren and Gibson Trophy Competitions are open to all Sydney Metropolitan Golf Clubs who are members of Golf NSW.

A player is eligible for T.L. Warren Trophy or W. Gibson Trophy Pennant if he

a. Is a male amateur golfer; and

b. Is 18 years of age and above on the first round of the competition; and

c. Is a financial member of the club they are representing in a category of membership that allows them to maintain a Golf Australia handicap for the club. The player must remain a financial member throughout the entire competition; and

d. Satisfies the handicap eligibility requirements.

Depending on the number of nominations the competition is played over four or six preliminary rounds, elimination finals, semi-finals and finals.

Mixed Pennants

A Mixed 4BBB Handicap Match Play event.

The basic rules involved a minimum age of 21 and maximum handicaps of 26 (men) and 35 (ladies) with the lowest marker playing off scratch and the remaining players playing off ¾ of the difference and the balanced match play index would be used.

The number of clubs involved started to grow rising to 42 and stabilising around 40.

Currently runs from May until July each year.

This Pennant Competition for male golfers aged 65 years or over.
